Upside Down Text

This upside down text generator is free and needs no install. It flips Latin letters using turned Unicode (ɐ ǝ ɯ) and reverses the string so the line reads upside down after you paste. Type a word, copy the flipped style, paste it into a chat or bio. The core mapping substitutes turned letters and reverses the string. Extra families on this upside down text generator add marks and should be treated as optional. This upside down text generator substitutes turned letters and reverses the string so the gag reads inverted in a normal text box. Type forwards; the page flips. Do not flip passwords, URLs, or anything someone must type back.

Alphabet styles target Latin letters and digits. Effects may add marks or spacing to other characters, and Upside Down reverses the full line.

What is an upside down text generator?

An upside down text generator does two jobs: it substitutes turned letters (many from IPA and letterlike symbols) and it reverses character order so the pasted line looks flipped in a normal left-to-right field. It is not CSS rotate. Rotation would be an image; this is still text. IPA turned letters were encoded for phonetics, not memes. Using ɐ as a flipped a is a reuse. That is why a few capitals look like cousins rather than perfect flips.

Not every letter has a perfect flipped twin. Some capitals use approximate glyphs. Digits and punctuation are incomplete. If a character cannot flip, it stays upright and the joke breaks — shorten the word. Screen readers will not “read it upside down”; they will announce odd letters or names. Upside down text generators that only reverse a string without substituting turned letters will look like backwards English, not a flip. This page does both so the result reads as inverted in a normal text box. Flipping a camera photo is not this tool. This upside down text generator outputs selectable characters so someone can copy the gag into another chat. That is the whole product difference from a rotate filter. Upside down text is not a cipher and not a camera rotate. Anyone can copy the string. Keep warnings, addresses, and payment details upright. Short jokes survive; long flipped paragraphs do not.

How to use the upside down text generator

  1. Type or paste your text

Type a short word or name. Long sentences flip into unreadable piles. Latin works best. Keep a right-side-up backup. Avoid flipping passwords, URLs, or 2FA codes. People will copy the flipped string and lock themselves out.

  2. Choose an upside-down style

The core upsideDown mapping is the reliable flip. Extra generated families add marks or alternate turned letters. Copy the preview that still looks flipped, not boxed.

  3. Copy and paste it anywhere

Paste into chat, a bio line, or a Discord message. Some apps reorder combining marks and will scramble generated families more than the core mapping. ASCII-only handles reject flipped letters. If you paste into a tweet, the reverse order is already in the string. Do not also reverse it by hand or it will read forwards in turned letters — a different joke.

Upside-down styles you can generate

    Core turned-letter mapping plus reverse.

  2. 2. The Upside Down

Generated flipped family; check each letter.

  3. 3. Bottoms up

Alternate turned mapping for a second look.

  4. 4. Top down

Another flip family if one glyph misses.

  5. 5. Inverse curse

    Glitchy flipped-adjacent combining marks.

  6. 6. All ways

    Mirrored/direction play; preview before paste.

  7. 7. Left or right

    Direction-bending generated family.

  8. 8. This or that

Alternate weird flip if the core looks plain.

  9. 9. Spaced

Flipped letters with air — longer strings.

  10. 10. Italic

Slant backup when flip glyphs box.

  11. 11. Small caps

Quiet second line under a flipped stamp.

  12. 12. Monospace

    Even-width backup for codes.

Where to use upside down text

Chat jokes

A flipped word in Discord or iMessage. Warn friends on older Androids that a few letters may box. Do not flip instructions people need to follow. In group chats, flipped insults still get read. Moderation still applies. Upside down text is not a cipher. If you flip a warning, someone will still follow the unreadable version. Keep safety language upright.

Bios

One flipped word as a gag under a plain name. A whole upside-down bio is hostile to readers and to search. Keep keywords upright. A flipped word under a plain name is a gag. A flipped address is a way to lose a delivery. Keep facts upright.

Usernames

Most handles reject turned letters. Display names sometimes accept them. If a game filter strips IPA letters, the name will fail to save. Esports clients that screenshot leaderboards may OCR flipped names into garbage. Keep the competitive ID plain.

Screenshots and memes

Pasting flipped text is faster than rotating a screenshot when you need selectable characters. For a poster, flipping in a design tool with a real font looks cleaner. If you screenshot flipped text, OCR may transcribe garbage. Keep a plaintext source if you need the original words later.

Upside down text on phones

Turned letters come from several Unicode blocks, not one tidy alphabet. Coverage is uneven: ɐ and ǝ are common; some capitals use obscure symbols that box on older Android fonts. That is glyph coverage, not a failed reverse. Some “upside down” websites use a different mapping for g or y. If a friend pastes from two tools, the letters will not match. Stick to one generator per joke. A few capitals use symbols that look like flipped letters only in certain fonts. If G looks like a Hebrew letter on one phone, that is the fallback, not a second mapping.

Reversing the string plus combining marks can look different after a round-trip through a form that normalizes NFC. If the flip “unwraps,” the host reordered marks. Use the core upsideDown style, which relies less on stacks. Copy-paste from this page already includes reverse. Tools that “flip again” will un-flip. Use one tool.

Screen readers and search will not treat flipped “hello” as hello. We did not measure reach. Keep the real words upright beside the gag. We did not measure reach. Search will not match flipped hello to hello. Keep a plaintext copy. RTL fields can scramble a flipped Latin string further. Keep the gag in a left-to-right bio or chat box, and keep a plaintext copy of the original words.
