This strikethrough text generator is free and needs no install. It adds a Unicode strike (combining long stroke overlay U+0336) to letters you copy and paste into chats that have no strikethrough button. Type a word, copy a strike style, paste it into a bio or message. The portable strike is U+0336 on each letter. What is a strikethrough text generator?

A strikethrough text generator does not wrap words in HTML <s> or Discord ~~markdown~~. It appends combining marks to each letter so the strike travels in the clipboard. That is why strikethrough paste works in Instagram captions where Markdown does not. HTML strike and Markdown strike are formatting. They die outside their host. Combining overlays are characters, so they survive a trip through the clipboard into Instagram.

Combining marks make strings longer: each visible letter can become two code points, so bios hit the cap faster. Some fonts draw the overlay too high or too low. Generated “strike” families on this page stack extra marks for a denser cancel look — they also box more often. How to use the strikethrough text generator

  1. Type or paste your text

    Type the word to cancel. Short phrases work; a whole paragraph of combining marks is heavy for older phones. Keep a plain version for search keywords. Do not strike through a whole legal disclaimer and assume nobody will read it. Accessibility tools may ignore the mark.

  2. Choose a strikethrough style

    The core strikethrough mapping is the most portable. Extra strike families add denser overlays. Copy the preview that still shows a line through the letters, not a pile of boxes.

  3. Copy and paste it anywhere

    Paste into a caption or chat. Discord also has ~~strike~~ Markdown — use Markdown in channels, Unicode strike in nicknames and other apps. ASCII handles reject combining marks. If you paste into Discord, you may see both the Unicode line and, if you also typed tildes, Markdown strike. Use one system.

Where to use strikethrough text

Captions

Strike a wrong guess, then write the real line in plain text. A whole caption of combining marks is hard to edit later. Hashtags stay un-struck so they remain tappable. If you strike a hashtag, it may cease to be a hashtag. Leave tags un-struck. Struck lyrics still copy. If you do not have the right to share the lyric, do not paste it, struck or not.

Discord

Prefer ~~Markdown~~ in servers. Use this generator when Markdown is unavailable (nicknames, other apps). Login names stay ASCII. Nickname strike is Unicode-only. Channel strike can be Markdown. Mixing both on the same nick does nothing useful.

Bios

A short struck joke under a plain name. Combining marks count toward 150 characters. If the bio looks like tofu, switch to a simpler strike. A struck joke in a bio still counts toward 150 characters including every overlay. Budget for marks. Hashtags that include a strike overlay often stop being tappable. Leave tags in A–Z and strike the sentence next to them. Each overlay still counts toward the bio character budget.

Lists and prices

Struck prices are a visual gag; they are not a commerce format. Do not rely on Unicode strike for legal disclaimers people must read. Fake “was $99 now $9” strike is a visual, not a store catalog. Don’t use Unicode strike as your only price record.

Strikethrough text on phones and Discord

U+0336 is widely available, but stacking several combining marks per letter can overflow a font’s mark positioning. That looks like a mess or boxes, not a clean line. Use the core strikethrough style first. U+0335 (short stroke overlay) looks different from U+0336. This page’s core style uses the long overlay so the line crosses more of the letter. U+0336 sits in Combining Diacritical Marks. It is not a “strikethrough block.” Fonts that skip that range will show letters with no line.

Some forms strip combining marks on save. If the strike disappears, the host discarded marks — you still have the base letters. That is not NFKC folding of math alphabets; it is mark stripping. Some “clean text” extensions strip combining marks on copy. Disable them if the strike never leaves this tab.

Screen readers may announce “combining long stroke overlay” or ignore the mark. Do not put the only copy of a warning in strikethrough. We did not measure reach. We did not measure reach.
