Small Caps Generator

This small caps generator is free and needs no install. It maps Latin letters onto small-capital Unicode (ᴀ U+1D00 and friends) you copy and paste into bios and captions. Type a name, copy a small-caps style, paste it as a quiet second line under plain keywords. This small caps generator is the short-capital alphabet, not superscript. Tiny raised letters stay on the small-text page so the two jobs stay distinct.

Alphabet styles target Latin letters and digits. Effects may add marks or spacing to other characters, and Upside Down reverses the full line.

What is a small caps generator?

A small caps generator does not shrink font size. It swaps letters for small-capital glyphs from Phonetic Extensions and related blocks. Apps still draw them at body size; they look petite because the glyph is a short capital. That is a different alphabet from superscript (ᵃ U+1D43), which sits above the baseline. Phonetic small capitals were encoded for linguistics transcription. Using them as a bio style is a reuse. Incomplete coverage is the leftover of that history.

Coverage is incomplete: not every letter has a small-capital form. Unmapped characters stay as typed. We measured small-capital A (U+1D00) not folding to “a” under NFKC in the same way math bold does — superscripts often do fold. Keep names you want searched in regular A–Z. Small caps generator searches split from “small text.” This URL is the short-capital alphabet. Superscript and subscript stay on the small-text page so the two intents do not cannibalize each other. Classic typography small caps shrink capitals and match figures. Unicode small caps are a ransom of phonetic letters. This small caps generator is honest about that gap so print designers do not ship it as packaging.

How to use the small caps generator

  1. Type or paste your text

Type a name or short label. Small caps work for whole words better than superscript. Latin converts where a mapping exists; other scripts stay plain. Paste plain mixed-case, not already small-capped text, or missing mappings will look like a random mix of heights.

  2. Choose a small-caps style

Core small caps is the readable default. Lil caps lock and mini-me are tinier cousins. Superscript is on the small-text page if you wanted raised modifiers instead. Copy the line that still looks like letters, not specks. If you need a petite date, superscript is still the right glyph even though it lives on the sibling page. Small caps are for words.

  3. Copy and paste it anywhere

Paste under a plain-text name. Username filters may still reject phonetic letters. If a device draws small caps as full capitals, that is a fallback font, not a second encoding.

Where to use small caps

Instagram bio

Small caps as line two under a searchable A–Z name. Each small-capital still counts as one character. Superscript is harder to read here — stay on this small caps generator for whole words. Brand names in small caps will not match a search for the brand in A–Z. Keep the legal name in regular letters at least once. If your name contains j or q, preview those letters. Phonetic small caps miss more of those than of a, e, and n.

Captions

A small-caps byline under a normal caption. Do not small-cap hashtags if you need them tappable and searchable as typed. Small-capped CTAs (“SHOP NOW”) can look branded and still fail search if the only instance is phonetic letters. Repeat once in A–Z.

Discord nicknames

Short small-caps nicknames often survive. Login usernames stay ASCII. If a member sees full-size capitals, their fallback font lacked small-capital glyphs. If a member list shows full capitals, their font substituted. You did not accidentally copy caps lock.

Mockups

Unicode small caps are a preview, not OpenType smcp. For print, use a typeface with true small caps so numbers and punctuation match. True OpenType small caps include matching punctuation and figures. Unicode small caps do not. Designers should not ship this as final packaging type.

Small caps on phones vs superscript

Small-capital letters live mainly in phonetic extension blocks. Coverage is decent on current iOS and uneven on some Android skins. A fallback to full capitals is possible. That is not the same as superscript looking tiny. iOS coverage of phonetic extensions is generally better than older Android skins. Test an Android screenshot before you commit a small-caps brand. Some Android “serif” fallbacks map missing small caps to full caps, which makes the line look like you hit caps lock. It is a fallback, not a bug in the mapping table.

We measured math bold folding under NFKC and small-capital U+1D00 not folding to “a” in the same check. Superscripts such as ᵃ often do fold. Hosts that normalize input may treat these families differently — test both if the save looks wrong. If a host NFKC-folds superscripts but leaves small caps, a mixed line can look half-plain after save. Keep a caption in one family.

Screen readers may speak “latin letter small capital a” instead of “a.” Do not put the only copy of an address in small caps. ASCII handles reject these letters. We did not measure reach. Screen readers may spell glyph names. Keep the legal name in regular letters.
